Athletic Mentors provides coaching for men, women and youths of all levels. A structured coaching methodology is applied to facilitate a training regimen that will provide the needed tools for athletes to reach their greatest potential whether their goals include competition or just optimal fitness and a healthy lifestyle. Our coaching package includes extensive one on one coaching time, custom training plans and telephone and email access to your coach.

Our Professional Coaching Subscription Includes:

  • A custom schedule designed to suit the athletes needs, goals and lifestyle.
  • Baseline and periodic testing to monitor fitness and progress using tests with heart rate.
  • Access to our “coached gym” in Richland for your strength training.
  • Assistance with nutrition and dietary planning.
  • Participation in small group running workouts with your coach and other Athletic Mentors athletes.
  • Online access to your training plan and online journal as well as utilization of an interactive coaching tool to record and communicate your training progress with your coach.

Figure Skating Off-Ice Conditioning

Camps

Our off-ice conditioning camp session is a great opportunity for athletes who want to prepare well for upcoming competitions. Off-ice conditioning programs features training modules specific to the demands of the skater. With greater attention to individual needs, our program will peak athletes that are heading into their individual competition season and start the building process for a longer-term plan.

Our programs typically give your skater three dry land training sessions per week which will keep your athlete healthy, engaged and active. Program packages may also include open gym sessions offered each week for extra training and conditioning.

Volleyball

Our Volleyball camps are a great opportunity for athletes who are at the Junior Varsity or Varsity Level looking to improve their volleyball specific strength and conditioning. Our intensive summer camps feature specific training focused on increasing vertical jump, explosive power, quickness and agility specific to volleyball movement and injury prevention.  From energy systems development to micro and macro nutrition and recovery strategies, our players emerge as well-developed athletes powered by the perseverance and commitment that transcends talent. Our unique blend of performance-powered mental and physical conditioning is designed for serious players who want to ratchet up their level of play.

Camp Outline:

Length: 10 Weeks
Location: Athletic Mentors Facility, Richland MI
Who: Junior Varsity or Varsity Athletes

Details:

  • 1:4 coach to athlete ratio
  • Athletes will train with Coach Mark Olson and our former and current Division 1 collegiate athlete/coaches.
  • Camp will primarily focus on the development of all key areas of volleyball specific strength and conditioning. Athletes will also develop new levels of vertical jump, agility and general explosiveness through the strength and conditioning portion of the the camp.
  • Training will be 3 days per week and 1.5 hours per day

Soccer Programs

Our strength and conditioning camps are designed to optimally prepare soccer players for upcoming soccer tryouts and the competitive season. We will communicate closely with team coaching staff to ensure that our athletes are specifically prepared to exceed staff, team and athlete expectations. The program was developed with proper use of periodization and progression to ensure optimal gains while reducing the chance of overuse injuries. In addition to proper supervision at all times for correct implementation of the workouts, this is vital to any well implemented training program.

The program will highlight the following physical aspects:

  • General Strength
  • Explosive Power
  • Agility, Lateral change of direction and quick feet
  • Core Strength
  • Soft tissue health and flexibility
  • Energy Systems Development (conditioning specific to the demands of soccer)

Why Is Proper Conditioning so Important?

Proper conditioning is vital to a successful soccer tryout and season. An average skilled player can become a dominate player if they are in superior condition. Conditioning is a rare element because it is independent of genetic talent. Superior conditioning comes from discipline, commitment and the willingness to work hard and persevere. With that said, developing your energy systems for soccer is not as simple is going out and jogging every day. The demands of the game require specific training modes. We have studied these modes for years and understand how to develop energy systems in these athletes to optimally prepare them for a successful season.

Know Your Metabolism

Your metabolism is a series of chemical processes within your body that keeps your cells fueled with nutrients. Since no two metabolisms are exactly the same, understanding the rate at which your body uses energy and the fuel source of this energy, can be paramount in getting the best results from your workouts and racing. Athletic Mentors offers cutting-edge metabolic efficiency testing for athletes looking to step up their game in all disciplines of endurance and power sports.

Metabolic Efficiency

What is it?

Metabolic efficiency is the process of improving the body’s ability to use its internal stores of nutrients more efficiently. Specifically, teaching the body to burn more fat while preserving carbohydrates, both at rest and at increasing exercise intensities.

How is it measured?

Athletic Mentors has specialized equipment on-site that allows us to capture and measure your breath during rest and steady-state exercise. By measuring your carbon dioxide production and oxygen consumption we are able to give you a detailed and personalized metabolic profile that identifies the rate of carbohydrate and fat utilization you use at varying intensities.

Why is this important?

Metabolic efficiency testing helps athletes identify and optimize the exercise intensities (heart rate, pace/power) at which their bodies are able to burn favorable percentages of fat. While this is beneficial for all, not just athletes, it is especially effective for triathlon and endurance runners.  As an athlete becomes more metabolic efficient they are able to fuel their efforts off of the copious amounts of onboard calories we all have stored as fat while sparing precious muscle and liver glycogen stores. This adaptation is also able to reduce their need to eat during training and racing. In a nutshell, athletes can use the test results with our expert guidance to fine-tune training, racing, and nutrition strategies that will both encourage performance success while discouraging metabolic failure (bonking) and gastrointestinal distress.

Whether you’re a distance runner, soccer player, triathlete, or just interested in living healthier,  Athletic Mentors understands the key role nutrition plays in achieving performance in life and in sport. We will help you understand, plan and execute nutrition strategies for daily living, training and competing.

With the help of our expert coaching staff and nutrition specialists, we integrate nutrition strategies with your current activity level and personal goals.

This program is designed for those who want to change their eating habits and body composition and need more consistent assistance and accountability.  Athletes prepping for a competition or those that want to learn how to fuel for their specific sport will also benefit from the nutrition program. The package will provide personalized nutrition counseling to help clients achieve their goals.

Our Nutrition Packages May Include: 

  • Monthly in person nutrition consultation (if desired).
  • Monthly body composition measurement using our InBody system.
  • Weekly 1 hour scheduled follow-up nutrition consultations in person or via Zoom
  • Weekly analysis of food log

  • Educational resources to help you make sound nutritional choices on your own
  • Guidance in developing a race nutrition plan for a specific event while enrolled in the program
